Our community space has a maximum capacity is 80 persons and can be booked for a range of uses. If you are a local resident within the administrative boundary of the electoral wards of Moulescoombe and Bevendean, our community space is available to book for free.

Community Room Use Policy
- The Maximum Capacity of the room is 80 persons.
- The Hours available for use are: 09:00 to 22:00 each day.
- The Community Room at Student Castle Brighton is for use by the local community.
- The fact that a group is permitted to use the room does not in any way constitute an endorsement of the group’s policies or beliefs by Student Castle.
- As long as events do not conflict with one another, there is no objection to regular meetings of the same group; however, in fairness to the numerous groups of the community, reservations are taken not more than 12 months in advance.
- An application to reserve the Community Room must be submitted to the Student Castle team at least 1 working day in advance of the scheduled event.
- The availability of the Community Room will be advertised on the Student Castle website, with a link on the Brighton section in order to book the room. The room may also be booked in person at the Student Castle reception.
- An individual responsible for the event must complete and sign the application form and must reside within the electoral wards of Moulescombe and Bevendean.
- Student Castle requests to be notified of cancellations so that the room may be made available to another group. Change of event dates or times must be cleared with the Student Castle Team.
General Rules of Use
- Political meetings are acceptable for the discussion of issues but not for campaign purposes, party caucuses, or meetings closed to the public.
- Except as a designation of location, the name of Student Castle may not be used in any publicity relating to use of the Community Room.
- Individuals or groups using the Community Room shall secure any necessary performance licenses and indemnify Student Castle for any failure on their part to do so.
- Attendance at authorized meetings may not exceed the maximum room capacity.
- No cooking may be not be undertaken or food served without approval. No Gambling is permitted. No smoking is permitted. Burning of any materials, including incense and candles, is prohibited.
- No alcohol may be sold in the Community room at any time. Alcohol may only be served at a community event with the prior consent of Student Castle at the time of booking.
- There is no charge for use of the Community Room, however, Student Castle reserves the right to require a security deposit from any organization requesting use of the Community Room.
- The Community Room must be left in acceptable, un-littered condition. Tables and chairs should be returned to the positions in which they were found.
- Meetings must be conducted in such a way as not to disturb neighbouring operations.
- The Student Castle team will not move or rearrange heavy equipment and will not receive deliveries.
- The Student Castle Team will not provide storage space and assumes no responsibility for equipment or personal articles belonging to applicants or their guests.
- The individual applicant accepts liability for either damage to the community room or loss of community room furniture and shall be responsible for paying the cost of any damage or loss incurred by Student Castle by the actions of any member of the organization or group.
- Student Castle is the sole determinant of whether damaged furnishings or equipment can be repaired or must be replaced. The individual, organization or group will not be permitted to reserve the Community Room again until the costs of repairs or replacement of damaged items have been paid.
- Student Castle assumes no responsibility or liability for accidents or injury.
- Student Castle reserves the right to close due to adverse weather conditions and will attempt to contact the applicant.
- The Student Castle Team must have free access to the Community Room at all times. The Student Castle team retains the right to monitor all meetings conducted on the premises to ensure compliance with the above regulations. Infringement of any of the regulations here stated shall be grounds for denial of future use of community space.
- The keys for the Community Room must be collected from Student Castle reception between the hours of 8am and 6pm on the day of use, or at a pre-arranged time. They keys must be returned to the Student Castle reception immediately after the event (even if outside of working hours).
Community Room policy is determined by the Student Castle Property Management Services Limited (SCPMS) in agreement with Brighton and Hove City Council and is subject to review and revision at the discretion of SCPMS.
Exceptions may be made at the discretion of Student Castle as it deems in the interests of Student Castle and the community. Appeals to any of these policies may be submitted to Student Castle in writing.
